Disney Channel actor Cameron Boyce, best known for his roles in The Descendants and Jessie, tragically died in his sleep on Saturday. He was just 20 years old.

A representative for Boyce’s family released a statement saying that the actor died due to an ongoing medical condition, which was later determined to be epilepsy.

The family spokesperson revealed that the actor passed away in his sleep due to a seizure. “The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him,” the statement continued. “We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.”

The actor also starred in 2010’s Grown Ups with Adam Sandler and made appearances in other Disney Channel shows like Austin & Ally and Liv and Maddie.

After news broke of Boyce’s family, many of his co-stars and others in the Disney Channel family took to social media to pay tribute to the actor and offer their condolences.

Zendaya tweeted, “Absolutely heartbreaking, my heart goes out to his friend and family.”

“Descendants” director Kenny Ortega commented on Boyce’s last instagram post saying, “Peter Pan the forever boy. Love you, Cam.”

Adam Sandler, who starred with Boyce in Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2, posted a heartfelt tribute to the actor, ending it with, “Thank you Cameron to all you gave to us. So much more way on the way. All our hearts are broken. Thinking of your amazing family and sending our deepest condolences.”
