As Chase Irving recovers, the gunman who injured him remains at large.

Baby Chase is making a remarkable recovery after he was injured while riding in the car with his family a couple months ago. While his family is happy about the strides he’s making in getting better, they’re less than thrilled with the way Chicago Police are handling the investigation.

Dejon “Chase” Irving was heading home from daycare with his older brother, cousin, grandmother and mother. A car pulled alongside them and opened fire. Nine bullets went through his grandmother’s SUV. Only Chase was hit; he was hit twice in the head.

Chase was put on life support for three weeks, and his family says they were given the option to turn it off. They refused. Then in March, he woke up. Minued said the first words he said upon awakening were, “Ma!”

Today, Chase has trouble with his left arm and his left hand stays in a clinched position. More surgeries are scheduled. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to get to one part of the bullet.

“There’s fragments,” his mother explained. Pieces of the bullet are still lodged inside his head.

While Chase is healing, his family is hoping the shooter gets caught. A couple of images of a red car believed to be involved in the incident are the only leads they’ve gotten from police in the last three months.

No one is in custody regarding this case, but police pointed the finger at Minued as being the likely target.

“I was hurt,” said Minued. “Now everybody is looking at me like I’m the bad guy.”

Meanwhile, she hopes the real bad guys are brought to justice sooner rather than later.

Police are still not commenting because it’s an open investigation. If you have any information, you’re urged to call police immediately.

A GoFundMe account has been set up in Baby Chase’s name to help pay his medical expenses on his road to further recovery.
