Thousands of people turned out for the Denver Pride Parade this past weekend.

The Parade was part of a weekend-long pride fest and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City. This is the largest celebration of the LGBT pride in the Rocky Mountain region.

The parade started at Cheesman Park and moved all the way down to Colfax. Colorado Governor Jared Polis, the nation’s first openly gay governor, and his partner, Marlon Reis, served as grand marshals in the parade. It’s an event to bring the entire LGBTQ community together to show solidarity and strength.

One Colorado dad used the LGBT event in Denver, which also happened to land on Father’s Day, as a way of teaching his young son how to be accepting of other cultures. Pride was created to promote love and acceptance of gays in America, which is exactly what J.J. Aston wanted his two-year-old son to experience.

Aston completes four generations of pride supporters. He was at the parade with his great-grandmother, his grandmother, and his mom.

While J.J. isn’t gay, his grandma is – so they march every year to support her. He says this is a great opportunity to give his son a learning experience.

“I want to expose my son to everything, and understand everything, and be accepting of everybody’s lifestyles and how everybody is,” said J.J.

And while there has been some backlash about taking his son to events like this, J.J. just brushes it off.

“My son should not hate anybody and be judgmental of anybody no matter what they do,” said J.J.
