Kids are still on their summer break, but if you live in Lee County, you can help students prepare for the next school year right now.

The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is holding their annual back to school supply drive over the next 20 days. The Foundation is looking for supplies like pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, crayons, notebooks, paper, earbuds, binders, folders, etc.

Dr. Amanda Rose from Dunbar High School says it’s so important to get these donations to students because “who doesn’t love opening a brand new notebook or a pack of paper? It really speaks volumes to our students when they get those new school supplies and we help them out and eliminate some of the barriers that some of them face.”

If you have more than one child, buying school supplies year after year can really add up.

Dr. Rose adds, “it shows students how important their education is when we can equip them and when we can say the community is standing behind us with these supplies so that you can better yourself for the future.”

Dr. Rose also explained why schools like Dunbar need something as specific as earbuds.

“Students have Chromebooks,” says Dr. Rose. “We do a lot of activities where they need volume on the Chromebooks and something as simple as earbuds can really make a lesson that much more effective.”

So if you have any new supplies to donate, whether new or reusable, the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is accepting it all.

“People should donate to help our students’ education. Our students are our future. It’s really important that we are supporting our future.”
