A group home in Dearborn has suddenly closed its doors, leaving families to find a new place for their loved ones.

The city temporarily closed the home on Hollywood Street near Glover Avenue pending an inspection. A sign was put on the door yesterday morning and since then, people have been forced to find a new place to live and a new place to get care.

The home has been temporarily shut down and must be inspected before it can reopen. It’s unclear why the home was closed, but a note left on the door says it cannot be occupied. The home is not listed on Michigan’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs – in other words, they don’t have a license. A spokesperson says all houses need a license to operate depending on the services they provide. A follow-up for this home is scheduled on July 15.

One local man, whose mother was living inside the house, was forced to find a relative for her to stay with and receive care. He says they’ve tried talking to the owner in the past about the issues.

“She had an issue with being left alone and sometimes she would be left alone to care for the other patients. He still assured us that everything was okay, he just had to step out for a second,” said Derrick Kirk.

Dearborn Police say they are still investigating.
