Gov. Charlie Baker has ordered a ban on all vaping products in Massachusetts.

After recent health reports have come out about the dangers of vaping, this is the first move of its kind in terms of politicians getting involved.

Baker has declared a public health emergency and ordered a four-month ban on the sale of all vaping products, which will go into effect immediately. Baker says his goal is to keep kids safe.

“We as a Commonwealth need to pause sales in order for our medical experts to collect more information about what is driving these life-threatening vaping-related illnesses,” said Baker.

More than 500 people across the country have gotten sick and the common denominator in all of those cases links back to vaping. Baker says that in Massachusetts, there have been 61 potential cases. One in five young people in the state report using e-cigarettes regularly.

The ban applies to both marijuana and tobacco vaping products. Small shops across the state are saying that this could lead a demise in their business.

“I mean, we only sell vape products here, so I mean what else can we do except close the door while they decide?” said Chris Kolacz of Beantown Vapor.

While this is the first ban of its kind in the country, Michigan and New York have banned vaping flavors.
