Homes for Heroes has given veterans a place to rest their heads.

It’s no secret that after having enlisted for many years, veterans can often find themselves as forlorn citizens when they try to settle back into regular civilian life. That’s why an organization from the city of Calgary, Alberta has taken it upon themselves to create a “tiny home village” for these veterans in order to help them get back on their feet.

The 15 tiny homes were created by the Homes for Heroes Foundation. Veterans in need who served as far back as the Korean War will be eligible to join the community. The houses are 275 square feet and they all feature war memorial plaques.

A large garden and counseling center is in the middle of the complex and helps build a sense of community for these veteran neighbors to get to know each other – thanks to their close proximity.

In Canada, somewhere between 3,500 and 5,000 veterans are homeless. Those who haven’t succumbed to addictions of any kind typically struggle to get by after they retire from the military.

While this is just the first tiny home village in Canada, there are plans to build more across the country. In Edmonton, there is already a second village underway to help even more former soldiers.
