Two women, 57-year-old Zhou Feng and 44-year-old Mei Zhang, were taken into custody following reports that they had been involved in human trafficking.

Boston Police and the FBI are running a joint operation to investigate human trafficking in Boston’s downtown area, cracking down on locations where it is most prevalent.

Court documents state Feng, of Medford, owns and ran Tang Spa on South Street where an employee solicited an undercover officer for sex. Less than half a mile away, Zhang was arrested at her spa, Eva Hair Salon. Investigators say another undercover was also solicited. Officers arrived at Zhang’s spa to find a male client completely nude.

Zhou Feng’s defense attorney maintains her innocence and says that she is the primary caretaker for her sick husband. Feng’s husband, who appeared in court with her, proclaimed his wife’s innocence.

Court authorities won’t know more details until tomorrow when a Mandarin interpreter will be available to speak with the women. The interpreter will be present when both women are arraigned on human trafficking charges. Court officials say that all arguments will be reserved until tomorrow morning when they are able to get more information out of the women through the translator.
