The WHO will be meeting on Wednesday to decide whether the coronavirus outbreak is an international health emergency.

Following reports of a new virus strain called Coronavirus that started in China and spread throughout several Asian countries, the World Health Organization has called for a meeting scheduled for tomorrow to determine whether the outbreak should be considered an international health emergency.

Coronavirus is said to be the cousin of the SARS virus, but the exact cause of it is still unknown. So far, more than 200 people have been infected by it and most cases have been due to human-to-human interaction.

According to NPR, “Health authorities believe that the virus probably originated in an as yet unidentified animal species and was transmitted to humans by contact with animals at a live animal market in the central city of Wuhan.”

Symptoms include respiratory illnesses like pneumonia, and it can even be mistaken for the common cold.

Cases have been reported in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan and South Korea. Six people are now dead because of the coronavirus. At least three people who died from the virus were said to have been sick before catching it. China’s National Health Commission confirmed that some health staff have been infected with it.

Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention Chief Epidemiologist Zeng Guang said that if action is taken now, then the coronavirus outbreak can still be reversed.
