Keep that soft spot nice and round.
As though new parents don’t have enough to worry about, Flat Head Syndrome is another occurrence that can be added to the list. Flat Head Syndrome is when a flat spot develops on the back on the baby’s head when he/she regularly sleeps in the same position. Now, there’s a product that cures this.
Author and neonatologist Dr. Jane Scott of Denver invented a special device called a “Tortle.” The Tortle is essentially a beanie with a support roll. It’s a form of repositioning therapy using the baby’s head and the shape of the head to reshape it back to normal.
“If the baby has a flat spot in a certain place, then the parents would put the roll directly over that flat spot,” said Dr. Jane. “Now baby has to lie on either side.”
Flat Head Syndrome is very common and studies show that one in two babies will show signs of it.
New mother, Tiffany Appel from Denver, said she used it on her baby boy when he was around two months old and the results spoke for themselves.
“We used it to a T,” said Appel. “And really, we could start seeing a difference in the first couple of weeks. We used it for a few months and it really changed the shape of his head.”
The Tortle filled the marketplace in 2010 and now it’s in homes and hospitals across the globe.
Not only has Dr. Jane made a name for herself by inventing the Tortle, but she’s also released a line of baby transport products used by countless hospitals. In addition, she’s written a book that has further validated her credibility in the baby health realm.
