The Cyberpunk 2077 developer has been targeted by hackers.

Since the extremely buggy launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in December, as well as reports of heavy developer crunch despite pledges to the contrary, Polish video game developer and publisher CD Projekt Red has been under heavy scrutiny by both consumers and business partners. Many users, upset with both Cyberpunk’s launch and CDP’s corporate policies, have publicly promised never to buy a game from them again, while the company’s shareholders have been considering legal action on the grounds of false advertising. As of yesterday, it seems the frustration with the company has reached a boiling point.

In a Twitter post, CDP announced that they had been the victim of a cyber attack on Monday. According to a ransom note they had received, the hackers had stolen source codes from Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, and Gwent, as well as “documents relating to accounting, administration, legal, HR, [and] investor relations.”

“Your public image will go down the sh—– even more and people will see how you [sic] sh—- your company functions,” the hackers’ note read. “Investors will lose trust in your company and the stock will dive even lower.”

The hackers ended their note by saying CDP has 48 hours to contact them, or all of the data they collected will be sold or leaked online, but CDP has no interest in doing so.

“We will not give into the demands nor negotiate with the actor, being aware that this may eventually lead to the release of the compromised data,” the company said in a public statement. “We are taking necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a release, in particular by approaching any parties that may be affected due to the breach.”

CDP is working with local law enforcement and IT specialists in order to investigate the incident.
