If you’re a woman or a baby in the state of California, life just got a little easier for you.

Under a new law that was implemented last week, also referred to as Senate Bill 92, diapers and feminine hygiene products are now tax-free.

The bill states, “diapers for infants, toddlers, and children, and menstrual hygiene products, defined as tampons, specified sanitary napkins, menstrual sponges, and menstrual cups” are exempt from sales taxes.

In June, Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom approved the legislation. Assemblywomen Lorena Gonzalez and Cristina Garcia proposed the bill and applauded Newsom for the green-light.

The Hill quotes Gonzalez as telling Fox 5, “This year, thanks to the support of our governor, we were able to finally repeal the sales tax on children’s diapers — saving the average family $100 a year per child in diaper taxes.”

Alongside politicians, new parents championed the bill, explaining that saving every last cent helps.

After hearing about the news, one parent told Fox 5, “That’s amazing. Diapers are expensive, so it helps.”

Over the past two years, Gonzalez has secured more than $11 million in California’s state budget to work with diaper banks.
