The California resort will host thousands of vaccinations daily.

As California has been one of states hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as it hits record high infections in recent weeks, more efforts are being undertaken to get the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines out to the public. As a part of these efforts, California counties are opening “super POD” sites, short for “point-of-distribution.” These sites are designed to distribute thousands of vaccines on a daily basis in an effort to assure the safety of the state’s most vulnerable populace as quickly as possible. One of these sites will be set up in a familiar spot for Anaheim residents.

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California is slated to host one of the first super POD sites beginning some time later this week. When it is up and operational, eligible citizens will be able to freely visit to receive their vaccinations. “The Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has stepped up to host the county’s first Super POD site — undertaking a monumental task in our vaccination distribution process,” Andrew Do, acting chairman of the county’s Board of Supervisors, said in a statement.

According to Orange County medical data, the 3.1 million-population county has experienced over 190,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began in earnest, resulting in at least 2,100 deaths. Currently, Orange County hospitals are hosting over 2,221 people sick with the virus, at least 500 of whom are in intensive care.

In addition to Disneyland, super POD sites are being planned for Dodger Stadium, PetCo Park, and Cal Expo. Citizens currently eligible for vaccination include elderly folks over the age of 75, critical workers, and health care workers. To get a vaccination, they’ll need to schedule an appointment at their nearest super POD site.

“It’s important to vaccinate as many willing people as possible for Covid-19, and we need the space to do it,” county Supervisor Donald P. Wagner said in a statement. “I thank Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim for stepping up in the shared effort to give OC residents protection against the virus.”
