Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine.
In both the Marvel comics and several films and shows, Wolverine and Deadpool are known to have a long-standing relationship with one another, sometimes friendly, sometimes antagonistic. It’s for this reason that fans of the Deadpool film series have been hoping for a proper crossover with X-Men since it first began, and it looks like we’ll be getting just that in the next few years.
In a reveal on his social media, actor Ryan Reynolds, who portrayed Deadpool in both films, announced that Hugh Jackman, longtime live-action face of Wolverine, will be appearing as the character in the next Deadpool film, which is slated for release in the fall of 2024.
“Every ‘Deadpool’ needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I… have nothing,” he joked. “Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”
“Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asks as Jackman walks into frame.
“Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replies.
The next Deadpool film is slated to serve as the official introduction of the X-Men cinematic setting to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, being the first film produced with the setting since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox.
