A 46-year-old Greenfield man faces several charges after being accused of pinning down a 13-year-old boy on the playground.

The confrontation happened at a playground across the street from Thomas Dandrea’s Greenfield home; he is the man caught on video.

The video was taken by the teen’s sister who pleads for Dandrea to let her brother go because he has asthma.

Dandrea told police he saw the boy in a construction truck parked nearby. In the complaint, Dandrea says he saw the boy vandalizing the truck. He says he called police and nothing happened, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.

He told the boy he was calling the police and he would give him a head start to run away. Dandrea says the teen swung at him first, so he swung back. The teen says he walked over to the truck just to check it out and sit inside. The boy told police Dandrea swung at him, so he swung back in self-defense.

Dandrea said he took it upon himself to pin the boy down until police caught to the scene.

The confrontation happened last week, when the teen was taken to the hospital to get checked out. He had a large bump on his head, swollen lips, a bloody mouth, and had trouble breathing due to his asthma.

After sorting through details, police say they determined Dandrea to be the aggressor. They advised him not to go back to the playground for any reason.

Dandrea was sent a summons in the mail.
