Congresswoman Greene’s personal account has been locked permanently.

Over the weekend, Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had her personal Twitter account permanently locked by Twitter staff on the grounds that she had repeatedly violated the social platform’s policies on misinformation, specifically in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. To clarify, this does not mean that Greene has been completely barred from Twitter; she still has access to her official Congressional Twitter account, and is still free to post from it.

A A Twitter spokesperson explained to CBS News that “we permanently suspended the account you referenced (@mtgreenee) for repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation policy. We’ve been clear that, per our strike system for this policy, we will permanently suspend accounts for repeated violations of the policy.”

Over the course of her time in Congress, Greene has been temporarily banned from Twitter several times for spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories and inciting violence. This is in addition to her being stripped of committee assignments in Congress due to inflammatory statements made after the events of the January 6, 2021 riot and insurrection.

Greene, for her part, condemned Twitter for banning her personal account. On her account on conservative social platform Gettr, she wrote that Twitter is “an enemy to American and can’t handle the truth. That’s fine, I’ll show America we don’t need them and it’s time to defeat our enemies.”
