City officials no longer wish to be associated with the President.

Following the riot at the United States Capitol on January 6, numerous brands and companies have been retracted donations from senators and lawmakers that supported President Donald Trump as consequence for his role in instigating in the event. Over the weekend, the Pro Golfers Association announced that they were cancelling their partnership with Trump, and wouldn’t be holding their 2022 championship on his course. Today, the entire city of New York City made a similar proclamation of their own.

New York City officials announced in a public statement today that they have begun the process of ending all business contracts with the Trump Organization. This includes operation of the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, the Central Park Carousel and the Wollman and Lasker ice skating rinks.

“The attacks on our Capitol killed a police officer, left four rioters dead, exposed lawmakers to Covid-19 and threatened the constitutional transfer of power,” the officials’ statement read. “They were a national abomination. We’re reviewing whether legal grounds exist in light of these new circumstances to terminate concessions with the Trump Organization.”

New York City’s Mayor and frequent Trump critic, Bill de Blasio, made his own feelings on the matter very clear. “Inciting an insurrection against the US government clearly constitutes criminal activity,” de Blasio told MSNBC on Wednesday. “The City of New York will no longer have anything to do with the Trump Organization.”

For its part, the Trump Organization has claimed that terminating these contracts stems from Mayor de Blasio’s “incompetence,” and that they plan to fight the prospect in court. “The City of New York has no legal right to end our contracts and if they elect to proceed they will owe The Trump Organization over $30 million. This is nothing more than political discrimination and we plan to fight it vigorously.”
