Things are going swimmingly at the box office for Aquaman. (Sorry for that.)

The superhero movie Aquaman has now made over a billion dollars internationally since its release on December 21st. It’s done well in the U.S. but its real superpowers have been overseas, where it has been a massive hit. Domestically, it has been out-performed by other DC movies like Wonder Woman, previous Batman movies, and even the much-maligned Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Despite this, Aquaman is the DC Extended Universe’s (DCEU) highest grossing film to date because of international sales.

Starring Jason Momoa, previously mostly known for murdering people in gruesome ways on Game of Thrones (what else do people do on Game of Thrones anyway?), the film has been getting decent but not glowing reviews. By DCEU movie standards, that counts as a critical success.

Since the film’s theatrical release will continue for weeks, it’s likely to distance itself even further from its competition in terms of money made. When all is said and done, it’s likely to be swimming in a sea of money.
