R&B singer R. Kelly is finally facing charges after two decades of accusations. Prosecutors in Cook County, Illinois – the county that includes Chicago – have brought 10 charges against him of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Without getting too graphic here, the charges involve four women, three of whom are minors between 13-16.

There’s going to be a long conversation about why the criminal case took so long to come to charges, and that’s an important discussion to have. It seems to have taken a Lifetime documentary special to get the ball rolling on the investigation again. But the upshot is that it looks like his reign of terror in the lives of so many women and girls may finally be over.

The attorney Michael Avenatti, who has been involved in the case, says that he finds it “highly unlikely that [Kelly] will ever set foot free outside prison” ever again. He added, “The day of reckoning for R. Kelly has finally arrived.”
