Leslye Headland is writing a new Star Wars story for Disney Plus.

Since their acquisition of the famous science fiction franchise, Star Wars has made some impressive money for Disney. The success of The Mandalorian was a major contributing factor to Disney Plus’ initial burst of subscribers, and another season of the show is currently in development. Not content to let Baby Yoda make all their money for them, though, Disney has begun work on a new Star Wars show for Disney Plus.

This new show is being headed up by Leslye Headland, most recently known for the 2019 supernatural mystery Russian Doll, which she co-created with Natasha Lyonne and Amy Poehler for Netflix. Besides that, Headland has several notable writing and directing credits, including the Seven Deadly Plays series, the 2014 remake of About Last Night, and Terriers.

Details about the new show are being kept tightly under wraps, but according to the initial report from Variety, the story will be more female-centric than other Star Wars properties. It has also been confirmed that the story will not coincide with any other established Star Wars timelines like The Mandalorian or the mainline “Skywalker” saga.

In addition to Headland’s show and the next season of The Mandalorian, Disney Plus currently has two other Star Wars shows in development. The first stars Ewan McGregor as franchise mainstay character Obi-Wan Kenobi in a character-focused story, while the second is a prequel to Rogue One starring Diego Luna focusing on the character of Cassian Andor.
