American skier Lindsey Vonn has competed in her last world championship, and she went out in style.

Vonn won bronze in her final downhill ski competition, a medal which might have disappointed her at other times in her career. But now, at age 34, when she admits that she is feeling the effects of the many injuries she’s had over the years, Vonn is taking bronze as a serious win.

After all, the medal still broke records. It makes her the oldest female skier to ever win a medal at a world championship. It also made her the first to win medals at six different world championships.

It wasn’t certain that she would be participating in the race, after she crashed and fell into the fencing during her second-to-last race. But she toughed it out and was rewarded.
