The Ohio representative had some fierce words for the other end of the aisle.

Yesterday, the United States House of Representatives passed a bill to form a bipartisan commission to investigate the events surrounding the January 6 Insurrection at the Capitol after the 2020 Presidential Election. The bill passed 252-175, with all Democratic representatives, as well as 35 Republican representatives, voting in favor, while the entire remainder of the Republican representatives voted against. This follows multiple days of prominent Republican representatives and legislators publicly speaking their opposition to the formation of a commission.

After the vote concluded, Ohio Representative and Democrat Tim Ryan took the floor to speak candidly about his feelings on the matter and towards the House GOP. While he thanked the 35 Republicans who voted in favor of the bill, he condemned the remainder of the party for refusing bipartisan efforts.

“Holy cow! Incoherence! No idea what you’re talking about,” Ryan started.

Ryan drew comparisons to the lengthy investigations into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over the 2012 Benghazi attacks, asking why a riot at the capitol has not drawn the same kind of attention from Republicans.

“We have people scaling the Capitol, hitting the Capitol police with lead pipes across the head, and we can’t get bipartisanship,” Ryan shouted. “What else has to happen in this country?” He added that every vote against the formation of the commission was “a slap in the face to every rank-and-file cop in the United States.”

“If we’re going to take on China, if we’re going to rebuild the country, if we’re going to reverse climate change, we need two political parties in this country that are both living in reality, and you ain’t one of them!” Ryan concluded.

The January 6 Insurrection Commission will be composed of an equal number of Democratic and Republican representatives, and will be conducting investigations and issuing subpoenas in pursuit of detailed information about the incident.
