The prolific football player is leaving his team after 20 years.

Tom Brady, one of the most well-known players in the American National Football League, has officially announced that he will be ending his contract with the New England Patriots, whom he has playing for for 20 years. He broke the story to his fans on his Instagram this morning.

In an additional post, he added that “Although my football journey will take play elsewhere, I appreciate everything that we have achieved and am grateful for our incredible TEAM accomplishments. I have been privileged to have the opportunity to know each and everyone of you, and to have the memories we’ve created together.”

Since he was picked up by the Patriots in the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady has become a juggernaut of the sport, carrying the team to six Super Bowl victories and earning a slew of player awards. Rumors began circulating last year that Brady would leave the Patriots when his contract ran out, but he kept his thoughts on the matter vague at the time. Brady had several conversations about his contract with the head coach of the Patriots, Bill Belichick, at the beginning of the month, but they could not reach a renewal agreement.

Despite leaving the Patriots, Brady is not finished with football just yet. He is planning to sign with free agency, meaning he can play for any team that can afford him. Brady has not expressed interest in any particular team to follow up the Patriots, but he has stated previously that he plans to continue playing football until he is at least 45 years old.
