The president expressed his displeasure with the South Korean film at a Chicago rally.

At a rally held in Chicago on Thursday night, US President Donald Trump was critical of the recent Academy Awards, specifically of South Korean film Parasite‘s victory in the Best Picture category.

“How bad were the Academy Awards this year, did you see? ‘And the winner is … a movie from South Korea,'” he said. “What the hell was that all about? We’ve got enough problems with South Korea with trade, on top of it they give them the best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know.” Trump went on to request more movies like 1939’s Gone With the Wind and 1950’s Sunset Boulevard.

Parasite was the first foreign film in the history of the Oscars to win Best Picture. In addition to that, it also won Best Original Screenplay and Best International Film. In response to the President’s comments, the film’s distributor, Neon, responded on Twitter, “Understandable, he can’t read,” in reference to the film’s subtitles.

In addition to his comments on Parasite, Trump briefly expressed displeasure at Brad Pitt’s comments during the show. Pitt, who won Best Supporting Actor, took his time at the podium to chastise the US Senate for their conduct in the impeachment trial hearings. “They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week,” Pitt said. In response to this, Trump said that he never cared for Pitt’s work, calling him a “little wiseguy.”
