The fast food chain wants to give customers something to smile about.

In a promotion they’re calling “GroupNug,” fast food chain Wendy’s will be giving away free orders of 4-piece chicken nuggets to anyone who visits a participating store on Friday, April 24. According to the company, Wendy’s wants to give everyone, both essential workers who are still working during the pandemic and people who are otherwise stuck inside, something nice, having been inspired by the efforts of Wendy’s employees to go above and beyond in these troubled times.

“Wendy’s restaurant teams across the nation have been living out one of Wendy’s most important values — Do the Right Thing — by helping their communities wherever they can during this unprecedented time,” said Carl Loredo, the chief marketing officer of Wendy’s U.S, in a press release. “These actions shine a light on so many individuals both in Wendy’s and across the nation doing good for others. We want to show our appreciation with our GroupNug offer for the entire country.”

Anyone who wants the free nuggets merely has to go through the drive-through at a participating Wendy’s location and ask for them. No other purchases are required; nuggets will be given to everyone who asks while supplies last.

The Wendy’s Twitter page, usually known for an entertainingly sarcastic tone, broke character briefly to offer encouragement to workers and citizens. The page began a comment thread, encouraging other users to add pictures and comments commending those who they believe deserve praise for their actions. As of writing, the thread has 645 retweets and 12.1K likes.
