A Chicago family was wrongfully raided by the Chicago Police.

Chicago’s CBS 2 investigators are looking into an incident where police wrongfully raided Dominique Wilson’s house and proceeded to put her eight-year-old son in handcuffs.

A swarm of officers surrounded the outside of Wilson’s home and yelled over a bullhorn for everyone to get out of the home with their hands up. That’s when Dominique Wilson was handcuffed for reasons unbeknownst to her.

Wilson’s son, Royal, says he was also bound by tight handcuffs for at least 30 minutes before police determined his age.

“My hands were just behind my back and they were tight. My legs were shaking,” said Royal.

Police appeared at the house after receiving a tip that there were illegal guns in the home. They were wrong, and the search warrant even said that the suspect didn’t live there.

For nearly a year, CBS 2 investigators have been exposing Chicago Police for wrongful raids, which includes swearing at children, pointing guns at them, and handcuffing innocent family members in front of them.

Al Hofeld, Jr. is a lawyer representing the Wilson family after the raid. It’s the fifth case he’s dealt with where Chicago Police have pointed guns at children and subsequently traumatized them.

Holfeld, Jr. says, “Hopefully you’re showing the need for reform.”

In regards to the incident, Royal says, “I didn’t know what was going to happen.”

Wilson says Chicago Police ultimately raided her home, pointed guns at her children, and blew out her ceiling all to find no weapons in the house at all.

Chicago Police say it’s not proper protocol to handcuff children. They claim they weren’t aware of Royal’s age at the time.

CBS 2’s investigation into wrongful raids has lead to proposed legislation, “House Bill 51”. This outlines how children must be kept safe from physical and mental harm during these instances.
