Weinstein received additional years on top of his current sentence for sexual assault charges.

Back in March of 2020, infamous media mogul Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in a New York court on sexual assault and rape charges. While Weinstein is currently serving that sentence, he was brought in for an additional hearing for further charges in a Los Angeles court. This week, the court reached a verdict, sentencing Weinstein to an additional 16 years of prison on top of his current sentence.

The first Jane Doe in the case, whose name has been withheld, offered testimony of how Weinstein assaulted her in a hotel room in February of 2013. “Before that night I was a very happy and confident woman. I valued myself and the relationship I had with God. I was excited about my future,” she said. “Everything changed after the defendant brutally assaulted me.

“I thought I did something wrong because he chose me that night. I thought I did something wrong for him to do that to me. I soon became invisible to myself and to the world. I lost my identity. I was heartbroken, empty and alone.”

Weinstein, for his part, his maintained his not guilty stance and plans to appeal the ruling. “I maintain that I’m innocent. I never raped or sexually assaulted Jane Doe 1. I never knew this woman, and the fact is she doesn’t know me. This is about money,” he said.

“Please don’t sentence me to life in prison,” he added. “I don’t deserve it.”
