It all happened last night at a car wash in the Little Village neighborhood.

An on-duty Cook County sheriff’s deputy shot a 16-year-old boy who he says tried to steal his Corvette.

The deputy claimed that when he got out of the Corvette, the teen jumped in.

According to police radio calls, “They attempted to carjack the Cook County sheriff’s deputy. There were shots fired by the Cook County sheriff and the offender in the vehicle is shot.”

The police radio also mentioned that the offender was shot in his top left shoulder and is in stable condition.

The 50-year-old sheriff’s deputy was in his parked car at the car wash around Cermak and Rockwell around 8:30 PM. He got out of the car and that’s when police say the 16-year-old jumped in and tried to carjack him. The deputy fired shots at the teen, but before shooting, he informed the teenager that he was with the Chicago Police Department.

Chicago Police have taken over the investigation and no arrests have been made at this point.

Local news crews have asked the sheriff’s department and the police why an on-duty policeman was driving what appears to be his personal car. They have not gotten an answer to that yet. It’s also unclear as to whether he was still in uniform.
