A man broke into a Lebanon apartment in an apparent effort to abduct a six-year-old girl.

Benjamin Dylan is the perpetrator who allegedly barged into the Lebanon, Indiana apartment. His bloody-faced mugshot made local headlines after police apprehended him for breaking and entering and trying to kidnap a six-year-old girl – Patty Roth’s granddaughter.

“Well, I was sound asleep in my bedroom and this guy comes kicking in and then he said, ‘you have my daughter’,” said Roth. “I was nervous, very nervous. I mean, I was shaking so bad.”

Roth and her granddaughter were sleeping together in a back bedroom when Dylan kicked in that door. He came within feet of both of them, claiming the little girl was his. The family is still left puzzled and with many questions.

“I don’t understand why he picked our apartment. I’ll never figure that one out,” said Roth.

The girl’s grandfather was able to get Dylan out of the apartment. But when officers showed up, Dylan got aggressive. According to the police report, he threatened officers and ended up fighting them and getting tased.

The couple believes Dylan was under the influence of some kind of drug. He has been arrested twice this year so far on drug-related charges.

“I hope that he gets himself back on his feet,” said Roth.

Neighbors in this apartment complex off Northeast Street knew all about the crime.

“It is scary,” said neighbor Sabrina Caldwell. “You know you got all these children and elderly. They’re older.”

The little girl told officers she wasn’t hurt – just scared. Her grandmother is warning this stranger to stay away from her family and their home.

“I wouldn’t want to walk back into my apartment again,” said Roth. “He’ll regret it the next time.”

Dylan faces multiple charges including burglary, battery on a law enforcement officer and intimidation.
