The long-running talk show is ending after its 19th season.

On Wednesday, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres announced that her show’s upcoming 19th season would be its last one. In a monolog, she thanked her fans and staff for their years of support.

“The past 18 years have changed my life. You’ve changed my life,” she said. “I am forever grateful to all of you for watching, for laughing, for dancing … sometimes crying. This show has been the greatest experience of my life and I owe it all to you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

After this announcement, DeGeneres participated in an interview with Savannah Guthrie on the TODAY show to talk about her reasons for ending the show. The most pressing question of the interview was the impact of the workplace toxicity allegations that flooded social media last year, though according to DeGeneres, this was not the primary reason for her decision.

“If it was why I was quitting, I would have not come back this year,” she said. “I really did think about not coming back, because it was devastating. It started with attacks on me and attacking everything that I stand for and believe in and built my career around … I am a kind person. I am a person who likes to make people happy.”

DeGeneres asserted that she genuinely had no knowledge of toxicity going on behind the scenes, and only learned about it once it was already all over the news. “I don’t know how I could have known when there’s 225 employees here and there are a lot of different buildings,” she said. “Unless I actually stayed here until that last person goes home at night.

Ratings for the show have also been down in recent years, though DeGeneres has said that that isn’t the primary reason either, as many talk shows have seen a decline in viewers recently. “As you said, everything in television is down. It’s got nothing to do with why I’m leaving. If I was having fun, I would do this show with nobody watching. So it’s got nothing to do with that.”
