The final weekend of August delivered plenty of early-season drama across European football.
From the Premier League and La Liga to Serie A and Ligue 1, clubs completed another important round of domestic fixtures between August 29 and 31. While it is still far too early to make confident title predictions, the first few matchdays are already offering clues about which teams could become serious contenders.

Arsenal closed their August Premier League schedule with a narrow but important 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on August 31.
The result continued a positive start for the London club and provided another early boost as the Premier League table began taking shape.
Elsewhere, Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest, while Chelsea came through an entertaining seven-goal match against Brighton with a 4-3 victory.

With both of Spain’s biggest clubs picking up convincing victories, attention is naturally turning toward another potential battle near the top of La Liga.
Atlético Madrid were also successful, winning 3-1 away against Sevilla.
The season is only beginning, but Spain’s leading clubs are already showing how quickly competition near the top could develop.
Roma Enjoy a Comfortable Night
In Italy, Roma delivered one of Serie A’s strongest performances of the weekend.
They travelled to Lecce and came away with a convincing 4-0 victory on August 31.
A comfortable away win can be particularly valuable early in a season, especially when teams are still trying to find rhythm and settle into new tactical ideas.
