Users will receive refunds for hardware and software in the next two weeks.

Back in September, Google announced that after several years of low-to-middling success, their Stadia game streaming service would be officially retired in January of 2023. Ahead of that retirement next month, Google will begin refunding customers for their Stadia hardware, as well as Stadia purchases made through the Google Store.

Users in the United States and United Kingdom should expect to begin seeing refunds for their Stadia equipment and purchased games over the next two weeks. Those who have refunds incoming will receive an email with the subject “Your Stadia refund from Google Store” in the next few days, followed by another email once the refund has actually been issued.

To clarify, only Stadia hardware, as well as games and add-ons purchased through the Google Store, will be refunded. Google will not be refunding the costs of Stadia Pro subscriptions, though anyone who had a subscription can continue to use its benefits until service concludes in January. Google has also noted that there may be problems in processing refunds for Stadia controllers, in which case users will receive additional instructions.

“It’s possible that there may be a problem processing your refund due to the time that has passed since the order was placed. If this happens, you’ll receive an email with instructions with next steps,” their FAQ reads.

Google is expecting the majority of Stadia refunds to be issued by January 18, 2023.
