Forty-one passengers on the Diamond Princess cruiser are confirmed to be sick.

Several days ago, the vacation cruise ship, the Diamond Princess, was quarantined in oceans near Japan after it was reported that one passenger was sick with coronavirus. 3,700 people are on the ship, 428 of American citizenship, and the majority of the rest of Japanese citizenship. Passengers have been encouraged to remain in their rooms and to regularly check temperatures and wear cold masks.

Unfortunately, despite the crew’s best efforts, the coronavirus has spread. Forty-one new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed among the passengers since the quarantine began, eight of which are among the American citizens. One of the afflicted passengers, Rebecca Frasure, is being airlifted to a Japanese hospital, while her husband, Kent, must remain on the ship. She spoke to NBC News over the phone after her illness was confirmed, saying “Being alone in the hospital in a foreign country where people don’t speak my language that’s definitely a concern.” Frasure is unsure as to how she caught the virus, as she was certain she had no contact with any of the afflicted passengers, nor did she actually feel sick.

The rest of the passengers of the Diamond Princess have started to become restless. Princess Cruises, the owner and operator of the Diamond Princess, have stated that the quarantine will likely last until at least February 19. Passengers have begun demanding support from their governments, insisting they be given the same treatment as those who were airlifted out of Wuhan.
