Popeyes’ hotly-anticipated nuggets are now available.

Back in 2019, fast food chain Popeyes launched a new and improved fried chicken sandwich that drew such immense positive feedback, nearly every other fast food chain began offering their own fresh takes on fried chicken sandwiches. This period is jokingly referred to as the “chicken wars,” as fast food chains regularly weighed the various sandwiches against each other. With the success the sandwich brought the chain, Popeyes has launched another chicken-centric initiative, and this time it’s backed by a charity drive.

As of today, Popeyes’ new chicken nuggets are now available at all chain locations. The nuggets themselves have already drawn much attention from the public, as it’s a well-documented fact that most people like chicken nuggets, but in addition to that, Popeyes has launched a campaign titled “We come in piece. 8 piece.”

For this campaign, the company’s charity section, The Popeyes Foundation, will be purchasing 1 million chicken nuggets from other major fast food chains including McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King and Chick-fil-A, and donating all of them to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. The chain is also welcoming cash donations from customers, and has promised to match any donation made up to $25,000.

According to Popeyes, the goal of this campaign is to “end the chicken sandwich wars,” and provide a show of good faith to all of its competitors that it had previously stoked competition with.

“The launch of our Chicken Sandwich was incredible, and we’re humbled by the amount of love and positive reviews, but at the same time many claimed that it started the chicken wars,” Popeyes Chief Marketing Officer Bruno Cardinali said.
