The people behind the Razzie Awards are not trying to make friends.
The anti-Oscars are going after some big people, from major Hollywood names like John Travolta, all the way to the White House. Some of the movies they really, really did not like: John Travolta’s movie “Gotti,” about the famous mob boss John Gotti; “The Happytime Murders,” the raunchy puppet movie starring Melissa McCarthy; the widely-despised Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly spoof “Holmes and Watson”; and anything by Dinesh D’Souza.
It was a bad year for everyone’s favorite Victorian-era detective, as the cartoon “Sherlock Gnomes” also got a mention for Johnny Depp’s voice work. Depp got a second nomination for “Worst Screen Combo” with his “fast-fading film career” for said cartoon. Ouch.
Perhaps most controversially, the President of the United States got two nominations for Worst Actor, in two documentaries: Dinesh D’Souza’s “Death of A Nation” and Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 11/9.” Believe it or not, Donald Trump already holds a Razzie (which, HOW DID I NOT KNOW THAT) for the 1989 film called, and I shudder to type this, “Ghosts Can’t Do It.” Someone decided to make a movie with that title, Donald Trump thought “That seems like a good place to make a cameo,” and the rest is history.
The Razzies are set to embarrass the rich, famous, and powerful on February 23.
