The wall-crawler is returning on the PlayStation 5.

During Sony’s PlayStation Showcase livestream yesterday, they revealed a game that they’ve been hinting at for a while now: a sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4. The sequel, aptly named Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, will be an exclusive for the PlayStation 5, once again developed jointly by Sony themselves and Insomniac Games.

While the trailer didn’t feature any actual gameplay, it did offer several elements to speculate on. Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are in full web-slinging garb. Peter makes liberal use of his suit’s special Iron Spider claws, while Miles uses his special electrical sting attack. The trailer features narration by an unspecified villain, though based on the accent and what he says, many fans have speculated this villain to be Spider-Man mainstay Kraven the Hunter. In the comics, Kraven regularly attempts to “hunt” Spider-Man for sport, craving the challenge of fighting a superhero.

Most interestingly, the last few moments of the trailer feature an appearance by another fan-favorite Spider-Man villain, Venom, an alien symbiote bound to a human host (usually Eddie Brock) that uses powers similar to Spider-Man’s own. Interestingly, this incarnation of Venom will be voiced by Tony Todd, who horror movie fans may recognize as the actor who played the eponymous villain of the original Candyman horror movie trilogy.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated to release some time in 2023.
