Zelensky urged the members of the EU to unite against Russian hostility.

As Russia continues its invasive offensive against Ukraine’s eastern border, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been traveling throughout the territories of the European Union in an effort to secure both allies and promises of military aid packages.

This morning, Zelensky visited the European Parliament in Brussels to state his case not just for aid and allies, but to have the EU officially admit Ukraine into its ranks. Last year, Ukraine’s application to join the EU was approved and the country was escalated to candidate status, which means the process to join is underway. However, Zelensky urged the EU to expedite the process as much as possible, both for the sake of Ukraine’s safety and the sake of the EU’s stability.

Zelensky warned that Russia’s invasion of his country is a sign that they intend to disrupt the stability of the continent, a process that would be more difficult for them if Ukraine could officially join the EU. Zelensky stressed that a successful repulsion of the Russian forces from Ukraine, with the EU’s help, would be a victory for freedom for the entire bloc.

“A Ukraine that is winning is going to be a member of the European Union,” Zelensky said. “The European Union that is winning.”
