Thanks to their vaccinations, the infected are asymptomatic or only mildly ill.

According to a press release made by the Belize Tourism Board earlier in the week, cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Vista ship. Carnival spokesperson AnneMarie Matthews confirmed this report to USA Today.

Out of the 2,895 passengers and 1,441 crew members aboard the ship, 26 crew members tested positive, while 1 passenger tested positive. All of the infected are confirmed to have been fully vaccinated against the disease, so in spite of catching it, the majority of them are asymptomatic, or are otherwise experiencing very mild symptoms such as exhaustion and aches.

These positive cases follow the ship’s departure from Galveston, Texas on Saturday. “We are managing a small number of COVID cases on board Vista,” Matthews said. “Guests on board both the previous and current sailing were informed and, specifically on the current sailing, the Captain has made at least two announcements related to this.”

Ship authorities ran contact tracing among the ship’s populace, and when no other cases were confirmed, the infected were successfully quarantined, while the remainder of the ship increased anti-COVID security measures.

“Additional protocols have been put in place, including increased mask-wearing indoors, use of N95 masks by crew, crew social areas have been closed, and as early as the next departure, all guests will require a negative rapid test, regardless of whether they are vaccinated,” the Belize Tourism Board said.
