The new Netflix film is an immediate hit.

Entertainment industry veteran Adam Sandler has been making an effort in recent years to branch out from his usual comedy-focused films and show of his range as an actor and director. So far, most of his more serious films, such as Uncut Gems and Murder Mystery, have found success with either critics or audiences, but have had difficulty appeasing both. It seems, though, that Sandler has finally found the magic middle with his newest film.

Adam Sandler’s Hustle is the newest of his works to premiere exclusively on Netflix, and in just a single day, it has rocketed to the top of Rotten Tomatoes‘ ratings. At the time of writing, the film has accrued a 91% Fresh rating from both critics and audiences, an unprecedented agreement on the film’s quality. The film tells the story of a talent scout for the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team with a genuine passion for the sport who discovers a young street baller in Spain with untapped talent. The two make a connection over their mutual love of basketball and desires to strive for greater things.

“It’s always a slam dunk when Adam Sandler drops his doofus routine and really acts,” writes ABC News‘ Peter Travers. “And here, as a basketball scout who yearns to coach, he infuses every frame of this formulaic crowd-pleaser with a real-deal love of the game.”

“Not only ranks at the very top of [Sandler’s] work alongside ‘Uncut Gems,’ but might also be the single best film I’ve ever watched on Netflix,” writes Looper‘s Larry Carroll.

Hustle is available to stream now for all Netflix subscribers.
