The effort to support burrowing owls is getting a boost from Big Storm Brewing.

The Cape Coral brewery made a new beer, and money from it will go towards conservation plans.

“Our plan first of all is to say thank you to Big Storm for creating Burrowing Owl Brew. It is the official city bird,” said Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife Vice President Pascha Donaldson. “We think that all our breweries will hopefully have a Burrowing Owl Brew to help us raise money to acquire land for preservation, conservation, education and to keep these little guys around for a long time.”

That land will be used to provide the owls with a home. Donaldson explained that the build-out of Cape Coral means these owls are losing their habitat, like most wildlife in the world. The goal is to keep the owls safe on the lots.

“Burrowing owls are really sweet and adorable. They also bring people to Cape Coral, which is economically a good thing for Cape Coral.”

Cape Coral has the largest population of burrowing owls, which attracts many people to the city just so they can see them.
