The Consumer Electronics Show, known as the CES convention, is underway in Las Vegas and, well, the future is now, everyone. New tech and gadgets are being rolled out at a dizzying speed and CES is the place to see them. Though some of the tech being unveiled is decidedly in the novelty category, some will no doubt be changing the world in the immediate future.

The biggest development that will affect all of us is the unveiling of 5G, the “fifth generation” of mobile internet. Faster download speeds will mean faster video and probably higher data overage charges for everyone. It might be time to spring for the unlimited plan.

Another major unveiling is a new level of tech in TV screens with the introduction of micro-LED with even higher resolution than we’ve ever seen before. And you won’t be able to miss “the Wall” – a TV so big it will cover one entire wall of your living room.

The long-foretold driver-less cars we’ve been hearing about for years continue to advance. It’s just a matter of time before we’re all eating breakfast and finishing getting ready for work during our commute. Maybe a pre- or post-work nap?

Don’t forget the robots! Tech companies continue to be obsessed with robotic companions that can do things that people can do – for example, say, take over the world.

CES is every techie’s biggest dream, and this year’s is no different. This is where the future is now.
