Philadelphia Police are investigating a possible robbery spree targeting fast food restaurants.

The latest happened at a Chipotle in northeast Philadelphia at the Roosevelt Mall.

There are a few reasons police believe this robbery is connected to other fast food robberies in the area. The first is that the suspects usually enter the restaurants through the back door. The second reason is that the suspects usually wear masks covering their faces.

Authorities are also saying that the previous robberies happened at Popeyes. One of those Popeyes locations happens to be right next door to the Chipotle. Authorities believe that suspects intended to rob the Popeyes, but instead opted for the Chipotle right as an employee was walking out back the door, taking out the trash.

Around 10 PM Monday night, three masked males went into the Chipotle through the back door and announced a robbery while employees and customers were still inside. According to investigators, at least one of the suspects had a gun.

The suspects fled with about $4,000. They ran out the back door and sped away in a grey Honda.

“The six employees, including the manager – they were not injured,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “They were not robbed of any of their personal items. Everything that was taken was money from the cash register and from the safe.”

Fortunately, some of the customers who were dining near the front of the Chipotle used some quick thinking after they saw the robbery suspects in the kitchen towards the back. They were all able to escape, unharmed.

Authorities are looking to compare surveillance footage from inside the Chipotle and surveillance from other restaurants that were robbed in an attempt to link it all back to the suspects.
