This year’s tax season runs from January 23 to April 18.

As 2023 is officially in full swing, that means tax season is right around the corner. In order to give everyone time to prepare this year, as well as give themselves some extra breathing room, the IRS has announced this year’s tax season dates, which are slightly longer than usual.

This year’s tax filing season will begin on January 23, and will last until April 18. Those who experienced losses due to the severe winter storms in California have an extended deadline until May 15. The IRS is expecting more than 168 million filings this year, and is advising all US citizens to file online as soon as possible to ensure the smoothest possible experience.

“We’ve trained thousands of new employees to answer phones and help people. While much work remains after several difficult years, we expect people to experience improvements this tax season,” said Acting IRS Commissioner Doug O’Donnell in a press statement. “That’s just the start as we work to add new long-term transformation efforts that will make things even smoother in future years.”
