Solomon Peña was arrested for allegedly orchestrating attacks on the homes of elected officials.

Back in November, during the Midterm elections, one of the Republican candidates for the New Mexico House of Representatives position was Solomon Peña. Peña ultimately did not win the position, though following the election, he reportedly showed up at the homes of the state’s elected officials touting documents supposedly proving he had actually won. Following these visits, in December, the homes of these elected officials were attacked by unidentified individuals who shot at them repeatedly. No one was injured in these attacks.

After an investigation by the Albuquerque Police Department turned up witnesses and recordings, it was determined that these attacks were deliberately organized by Peña as a politically-motivated incident. SWAT officers raided Peña’s home on Monday, taking him into custody.

“APD essentially discovered what we had all feared, and what we had suspected, that these shootings were indeed politically motivated, and that has basically been confirmed by this investigation,” said Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller.

“I hope, personally, too, our legislators can breathe a sigh of relief,” Keller said. “They can go back to focusing on the legislative session. I also know that fundamentally, at the end of the day, this was about a right-wing radical, an election denier who was arrested today, and someone who did the worst imaginable thing you can do when you have a political disagreement, which is turn that to violence.”
