West was removed for “concerning online behavior.”

Kanye “Ye” West was one of the numerous musicians slated to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards, scheduled to run on April 3. However, the organizers of the event have decided to bar Ye from the event, citing recent instances of “concerning online behavior.”

While a precise incident was not cited by the organizers, some have theorized that one of the major instigating moments was a recent online altercation between Ye and television personality Trevor Noah. During a segment on The Daily Show, Noah commented on his concerns about the relationship between Ye and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.

“I’ll be honest with you — what I see from the situation is a woman who wants to live her life without being harassed by an ex-boyfriend or an ex-husband or an ex-anything,” Noah said in the segment. “You may not feel sorry for Kim because she’s rich and famous, because she appropriates Black culture … but what she’s going through is terrifying to watch and shines a spotlight on what so many women go through when they choose to leave.”

In response to this segment, Ye released a brief musical track referring to Noah using a racial slur.

Noah responded, though he stressed that he was not upset with Ye, but merely worried about him. “You’re an indelible part of my life Ye. Which is why it breaks my heart to see you like this. I don’t care if you support Trump, and I don’t care if you roast Pete. I do, however, care when I see you on a path that’s dangerously close to peril and pain.”

Ye is presumably still attending the Grammys, if not as a performer then as a guest, as he has been nominated for several awards.
