Fans are eager for some new announcements.

This morning, Nintendo teased a new Nintendo Direct presentation, set to air on Wednesday, February 9 at 2:00 PM pacific time, 5:00 PM eastern. According to the announcement tweet, the presentation will be approximately 40 minutes long and will offer some new details on Nintendo Switch games that are planned for release in the first half of 2022.

Due both to the fact that this is the first Nintendo Direct presentation of 2022, and simply that it’s a Nintendo Direct at all, social media has quickly flooded with expectations, predictions, and general hopes for reveals and information. Several major Nintendo releases currently have TBD 2022 release dates, including the still-unnamed sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, and Bayonetta 3, so many are hoping to receive more information on these games, concrete release dates, or, preferably, both.

Social platforms are also full of speculation as to potential new games, with one of the most popular predictions being a brand new Mario Kart game. As it has been eight years since the release of Mario Kart 8 (the Switch port Mario Kart 8 Deluxe notwithstanding), players are hungry for a new Mario-themed kart racing game with new tracks and characters. Nintendo has not hinted at any new Mario Kart entries, so this is purely in the realm of speculation, but many are of the opinion that it has been a long enough wait.
