Released in 1993 for the original Game Boy, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is a cult classic within the Zelda franchise. It is, to date, one of the only Zelda games that allowed Link to jump over obstacles, and featured a variety of side-quests and easter eggs with depth unheard of for games of that time. Now, almost twenty-six years later, Link is reawakening in 3D on the Nintendo Switch.

During a Nintendo Direct presentation last night, Nintendo announced the development of a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for the Nintendo Switch. It will utilize the same story and map as the original game, as well as its signature jumping puzzles and sidescrolling sections, but with an updated presentation and multiple quality-of-life improvements. Details are scarce at the moment, but buzz is already generating for the remake’s frankly adorable new style, re-imagining the sleepy island of Koholint as a pastel, toy-like world.

Link will journey once again to awaken the sleeping Wind Fish from its horrid nightmares when the game releases for Nintendo Switch on an unspecified date later in 2019.
