It’s been one year since the Parkland school shooting. On February 14, 2018 a shooter walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida and began firing. In all, he killed 17 people, including both students and teachers.

It wasn’t the first time such a shooting occurred, but it did seem to mark a tipping point in the discussion around gun violence. Much of the credit for that has been given to the students themselves, several of whom have become outspoken gun law reform advocates.

The advocacy of those students has created a nationwide movement known as March For Our Lives. The movement was especially active as they recognized the anniversary of the senseless loss of life in Parkland. Rallies were held around the country in support of reform.

What that reform might look like is of course a point of major political contention. But the students of Parkland will continue to push for engagement and discussion of the pressing issue facing America.
