The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are distancing themselves from the Royal Family.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they will be stepping back from their senior royal duties, it’s now been reported that the Duchess of Sussex has returned to Canada.

On the couple’s Instagram page, Royal Sussex, they state, “The Duke and Duchess have a strong connection to Canada. It’s a country The Duke of Sussex has visited many times over the years, and it was also home to The Duchess for seven years before she became a member of The Royal Family.”

The latter part of the post refers to Markle’s starring role on the show Suits, which was mostly filmed in Toronto’s Financial District.

Following the announcement, reports of disappointment and complications arose from higher-ups in The Palace. However, the couple say they prefer financial independence.

Markle was allegedly worth $5 million before she met Harry. Harry is said to have inherited millions from his mother, Princess Diana.

CNN reports that “they receive 5% of their income from the Sovereign Grant — a lump sum of UK taxpayers’ money given to the Queen every year — and 95% from the Duchy of Cornwall, the private estate controlled by Prince Charles, Harry’s father.”

According to CNN, Markle will return to London on Tuesday. She and Harry will “attend an event with Janice Charette, High Commissioner of Canada to the UK, at Canada House.”
