What do you think the cost of friendship is? According to a new website, it’s about $25 per hour.

People are now making a living as friends on Rentafriend.com. Just like you could go online and rent a car, furniture, a movie, or clothes, you can now rent a friend! The friends you can “rent” are sorted by city and gender. There are well over 100 pages of options of people to choose from.

If you don’t want to go to a work event alone, or you’ve been dying to see a concert but have no one to enjoy it with, you can hang out with someone like Nikki Souza, who has a profile on the site. The only catch is you have to pay her $30 per hour.

“It sort of feels like you’re just a private tour guide, essentially. So you meet with people and you’re like ‘Hey, let me show you my city and the things that I love,'” said Souza.

Souza joined Rent-A-Friend in 2013 to make some extra cash. Since then, she’s been on dozens of adventures with strangers.

“Wow, I get to do really cool stuff that I wouldn’t normally do and I get to get paid. It’s a dream job! And I get to meet really cool people,” said Souza.

Creator of Rent-A-Friend Scott Rosenbaum says you won’t be swiping right, though. Business should remain strictly platonic.

“There are plenty of dating websites out there. When I started Rent-A-Friend I wanted it to be the opposite of a dating site,” said Rosenbaum.

Although, Souza did have one man try to break the rules asking for her hand in marriage so he could stay in the country.

“I was like ‘unfortunately, I’m not your person'”, said Souza. No wedding bells there.

Just like anything on the internet, it’s up to you to stay safe and know your limits.

“I won’t go to someone’s private location. I won’t get into someone’s room. I won’t get anywhere where there aren’t other people around,” said Souza.

The site doesn’t run background checks and most transactions are done in cash. They do ask members to follow some safety recommendations such as always meeting in public, watching your alcohol intake, making sure you have your own form of transportation and being up front about what a member or friend should be expecting when you plan to meet up.

Membership for Rentafriend.com will run you $24.95 per month or $69.95 per year.
